I saw this what must be a nearly 40 year old Ford Explorer pickup filling up at the blue goat mutual station the other day. It appeared to be a daily driver- impressive.
It made me think about all the investments we’ve made in the combustion engine as a species and how many people’s lives revolve around them. It’s all of us really, but some more than others to be sure.
As the winds of change seem to be blowing toward an electrified future it makes me think about the stories of horse and buggy days from great grandparents (and even grandparents) - it seemed like an inconceivable reality growing up but here we are, poised to put another era defining phenomenon out to pasture.
My great hope is that if/as this happens (and it will take some time) that we think about people, especially those of lesser means, and invest heavily in transitioning them into the new era. It never seems wise to get between “a person and their meal” even if it’s in the name of a better more healthy planet.
